Unlocking the Root of Your Child’s Health Struggles with INSiGHT Scans
At Healthy Families Chiropractic, we’re always looking for ways to understand what’s going on beneath the surface when it comes to your child’s health. One of our favourite tools to do that is the INSiGHT Scan, a gentle, non-invasive way to assess how well your child’s nervous system is working.
While traditional health checks focus on things like weight, height, or blood tests, INSiGHT Scans help us look at function, specifically, how adaptable your child’s nervous system is to stress. And when we say stress, we don’t just mean emotional stress. We’re also looking at physical and chemical stressors that can affect sleep, digestion, behaviour, energy, and development.
The nervous system is like your child’s internal command centre. It connects everything-how they sleep, how they focus, how their immune system works, even how they respond to big emotions. When this system is under pressure, it can show up in many ways: frequent meltdowns, trouble settling, sensory challenges, or ongoing health concerns that don’t seem to have a clear cause.
That’s where INSiGHT Scans come in. They allow us to measure how well your child’s nervous system is regulating and adapting, using advanced technology that’s safe for all ages, even babies. We’re not guessing or relying only on symptoms. We’re using real data to help us understand what’s going on inside.
There are three main types of INSiGHT Scans we use:
NeuroThermal Scan
This scan checks how well the nerves that regulate your child’s organs and systems are functioning, especially the ones that control digestion, immune function, and hormonal balance. It shows us if there’s any stress or imbalance in the autonomic nervous system and how deeply rooted these challenges are. This scan is especially helpful for children who experience things like reflux, constipation, chronic colds, allergies, or sleep difficulties.Surface EMG (Electromyography)
The EMG scan looks at the energy and activity in the muscles along your child’s spine. This tells us how much effort their nervous system is using just to maintain posture and movement. Too much or too little activity can mean the system is overworked or under-connected. This scan is particularly valuable for kids dealing with coordination issues, delays in motor development, or behaviours linked to overwhelm like hyperactivity or meltdowns.Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
HRV measures your child’s ability to recover from stress. Think of it as checking their “internal battery” each day. A strong, balanced HRV reading tells us the nervous system is flexible and resilient. If HRV is low, it might explain why your child struggles to settle, stay asleep, or handle changes in routine. This scan is incredibly helpful for understanding energy, mood, and emotional regulation.
The scan process is quick and calm. Your child simply sits with you while we gather the information. From there, we use the results alongside your child’s case history and other assessments to build a care plan that supports their unique nervous system.
If you’ve felt stuck or like you’ve tried everything but still haven’t found answers, this could be the missing piece. It’s a chance to look deeper and get to the root of the challenges your child is facing.
